The IRSA site will be down from 9 am to 2 pm PST on Saturday, Nov 7 2009 for network maintenance.
LGA Data Atlas
You can get a close-up map of a region by selecting a point in red on the above image, or by typing a coordinate below.
The high sensitivity and angular resolution of the 2MASS Large Galaxy Atlas (LGA) images allows closer inspection of diverse stellar populations, large-scale structures such as spirals, bulges, warps and bars, star formation regions and evolution of galaxies. This image atlas represents the first uniform, all-sky, view of galaxies as seen in the near-infrared wavelength window that is most sensitive to the dominant mass component of galaxies.
If you are looking for the original IRSA 2MASS LGA Service, it can be found here. JPEG images, photometric information and NED connectivity are available there. This LGA Data Atlas serves multiple FITS image files covering a wide area of the sky.
Also available are LGA image "cutouts" using IRSA's Cutouts Service, which is a general tool to create single or multiple small FITS (and JPEGs) image cutouts of datasets archived at IRSA.
LGA images are represented as overlays in red on the ISSA all-sky composite image above. Either type in a coordinate or click on any red region to get a close-up of the area; the size of the search is adjustable.
